Annual Visitation to Lodge Earlshall No.1292, 14th February 2013

The annual visitation to Lodge Earlshall No.1292 took place on Thursday 14th February 2013. The deputation from the Provincial Grand Lodge of Fife and Kinross on this occasion was headed by the Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master Bro. Rev Andrew Eadie Paterson JP.

After the deputation had entered the Lodge and the usual  formalities had been observed Bro. Tom Donaldson PM asked the Bro. Director of Ceremonies to present Bro. John Ovenstone to the centre of the Lodge to be presented with a Distinguished Service Diploma for many years of loyal service to his Mother Lodge.

Bro. John Ovenstone was initiated into Lodge Earlshall No.1292 on the 10th February 1972, passed on the 24th February 1972, raised on the 9th March 1972 and received his mark on the 27th April 1972. In is address Bro. Donaldson PM commented that

"John has been a very faithful servant to this his Mother Lodge having held almost all of the progressive offices whithin the Lodge save that of secretary, treasurer and RWM. John is one of those unsung heroes of the Lodge as never wished to become the Master of the Lodge but has supported it well in any office he has held over many years.

John comes from a Masonic family, his father was a PM in Lodge St. Monan No.1348 and was a well respected Freemason throughout Fife.

John worked as a Fireman at RAF Leuchars for many years and this involved shift work but John attended the Lodge on as regular a basis as his shift work would allow.

He was hall caretaker both in the old Lodge at Schoolhill and here in the Henderson Hall and kept the Lodge in tip top condition by cleaning the place and carrying out many of the DIY jobs that are needed on a day to day basis.

For a while John also looked after the Hall Lets, a job which often meant coming out on a cold wintry night to open up the Hall and later on to close up.

John is a regular attendee at the Social Evenings of the Lodge along with his wife Ella and once again was always there to lend a hand if anything was needed done.

He has been a great ambassador for the Lodge and indeed Freemasonry, he is well known in the area for his visiting of the sister Lodges in the area.

It is with a great debt of gratitude that the Lodge asks Bro. John Ovenstone to accept this Distinguished Service Diploma from us al here as a small thank you for all you have done for this Lodge and for the Craft in general".

Bro. Donaldson then invited the Provincial Grand Master Bro. Andrew Paterson to present Bro. John Ovenstone with his Diploma, which he did while at the same time offering Bro. Ovenstone his own congratulations. Bro. John Ovenstone on accepting this award made a very fitting reply.
